Judging controversy mars Utah gymnasts’ win
Explanation for why Stephanie McAllister received only a 9.675 when everyone in the arena was screaming for a 10.0. Spanny, Brigid and I were like “the fuck?” when her score came out, because her routine was awesome. Apparently she didn’t meet the leap requirement so they took her SV down to a 9.8. Why would her routine SUDDENLY not meet the requirement after performing it all season?
Obviously that one routine alone wasn’t responsible for their 196.3. Every single FTY had a HUGE rebound…I don’t know if it was their mats because it happened to Stanford, too, but they would stick the landing but then fly back 5 or so feet. I’ve never seen so many people have the same problem landing a Yurchenko full. And then Lothrop fell on beam, lowering their potential there. But the McAllister score was literally shocking…and then poor Ashley Morgan fell on beam because when they posted her score all 14,000 people in the arena booed like mad. They were really expecting something huge. Stupid judges.
