Alabama beats Kentucky 196 to 194.7
It was an okay meet for Alabama, though not their best, as they scored almost two points lower than they did in their awesome home meet against the Florida Gators last weekend. They didn’t count any falls but there were many mistakes and unpolished routines throughout the night all across the board and managed only one 9.9 all night long.
Starting on bars, the team had some decent but weak routines. Sarah DeMeo fell, and the best score was a 9.85, which Geralen Stack-Eaton earned after a good but not flawless set. They finished with a 49 even. They did slightly better on vault, though saw a few 9.7 range scores (including from Stack-Eaton, which was odd). Marissa Gutierrez’s FTY earned the top score here, a 9.9, contributing to a 49.1 total. The Crimson Tide got a 49.05 on floor after more of the same, though Ashley Sledge’s routine was nicely done, for a 9.875. Moving into beam in the final rotation, both Sledge and Ashley Priess had issues and near-falls, both earning in the 9.6 range. Kim Jacob’s solid routine earned a 9.85, yet the team total was only a 48.85.
Kentucky began on vault, with Kenzie Hedges earning a 9.85 (second place) after a pretty solid FTY. Bars went pretty well for the team, with deductions mostly related to form issues. Storey Morris performed excellently, though, earning a 9.8, tying her for third place with Ashley Sledge. The team had to count mostly 9.5-9.6 scores on beam, with Morris again outperforming everyone for a 9.8 (tying for second place). Floor was the best event for the team, who included Kayla Hartley’s 9.9 in their 48.85 total; Hartley took the floor title.
